Regular Services
Noon Day is open Tuesday through Friday each week and provides the following services:
Feeding Program
Noon Day provides a hot lunch to hundreds of Albuquerque’s homeless and near-homeless population every Tuesday through Friday. We are not a soup kitchen, however, but rather we provide full meals. A typical meal includes meat, vegetables as well as dessert. We also provide a small breakfast to those individuals who come to receive other services.
Rental Assistance
Noon Day provides rental assistance to local families who are on the verge of being forced out and onto the street. In most cases, a tragic event such as a lost job or a major unexpected expense prevents these families from being able to pay their rent for a short time. Generally, Noon Day provides these families with rent of one month or less which allows them to find a new job or to get by during this time to prevent them from losing their home. Noon Day contacts the landlord directly to make the payment. Although no repayment is required, in numerous cases families have subsequently attempted to repay this amount so that we can help additional families in need.
Utility Assistance
The high cost of utilities can also provide a significant challenge for many vulnerable members of society. In these cases, Noon Day will help families to cover their utilities so that they do not lose access to electricity, gas or water in their homes.
Transportation Assistance
Often, due to unforeseen circumstances, individuals with family or job opportunities in distant places will find themselves on the streets in Albuquerque. In these cases, Noon Day purchases bus tickets on their behalf to facilitate their trip. Additionally, Noon Day provides bus passes for individuals who them to be able to get to work,
School Supplies
Many homeless and working poor families struggle to provide their children with the supplies that they need to succeed in the classroom. In the knowledge that education can provide these children with a route out of poverty, Noon Day provides children with donated school supplies.
Christian Legal Aid
Life on the street often leads to many challenges and potential legal complications. Often, our homeless guests find themselves involved in legal problems that can be easily solved with the aid of a lawyer. With the generous help of Christian Legal Aid, lawyers come to Noon Day to consult with our guests at no cost and to provide legal advice.
Haircuts
Appearance is an important aspect of relations with others. Much of the bias that our homeless guests face in society can be due to their appearance. Importantly, appearance can also make a major difference in interviewing for a job. With the support of several professional hairdressers who volunteer their talents , Noon Day provides the opportunity for our guests to receive haircuts every Tuesday.
Christmas Party
Christmas can be the saddest day of the year for New Mexico’s homeless population. While the rest of society is celebrating and enjoying food and family, many have no family or are not welcome if they do. Noon Day strives to make this celebratory day a happy one for our guests by providing a festive Christmas party complete with a mariachi band and Santa Claus. Every person who walks through our door leaves with a full stomach, a present, and the knowledge that they were loved on this special day. More importantly, they are also given the chance to come to know the real meaning of Christmas and the peace that they can have through a relationship with our Lord.
Alex Fund
The Alex Fund was created in memory of the Alex Layer who passed away before his time. The Alex Fund helps families with young children to continue to provide for them. For example, one family which came to Noon Day lacked basic school supplies. Through the Alex Fund we were able to provide them with these necessities to help them succeed in school.
Clothing and Toiletries
Our supporters provide clothing and basic items which we distribute to those in need, including warm coats in the winter.
Grocery Provision
With the generosity of the food provisions, Noon Day provides food items to take home that can provide additional meals for growing children.
Showers
Each morning before lunch, Noon Day opens to provide showers for our homeless guests.
